Roberto and Nancy Reed were commissioned as Covenant Career Missionaries to Spain in June of 1996 to work in evangelism, church planting, and discipleship. Arriving in October of 1996, Rob and Nancy (both fluent in Spanish), never imagined they would move three times in four years!
First stop for Roberto and Nancy was one year in Madrid for orientation (Spanish history & culture) and serving in a church. Second stop was church planting in the small town of Jarandilla, a strategic location for reaching the main towns of La Vera, an agricultural county of 30,000 people.
The third stop is La Coruña, a city of 300,000 in Galicia (northwest corner of Spain) where the Reeds have lived since 1999 working in church planting. A church of over 100 people has emerged and is growing. The church is called Iglesia del Pacto Evangélico Vida Nueva (New Life Evangelical Covenant Church).
Roberto pastors the rapidly growing church and is involved in training leaders for the multiple cell groups and mobilizing the church to be both a hospital (caring for each other) and an army (extending God’s Kingdom). He also serves as a youth Alpha course advisor for Spain.
Nancy continues working in the area of discipleship and helping with the décor of the church. She continues in her call to love, disciple and raise their two young children Josue (6) and Sofía (5).
Some of their stories include evangelizing in bars, holding evangelical “mass” in a Catholic church, and seeing their small church start to support two missionary families. They have plans to work towards a second church plant and beyond.
Spain has the lowest percentage of evangelical Christians of all of Europe. And statistically no numerical growth has been reported in Spain during the last decade. But despite this, God has called the Reeds to grow a church that will impact thousands of lives and plant other churches. They are both applying for Spanish citizenship and desire to immerse themselves even further in the culture and lives of people they have been called to love and serve.
Rob has a language diploma in French from IFCAD (Belgium), a B.A. in International Business and Spanish from North Park University (Chicago, Illinois, USA), and an M.Div. from North Park Theological Seminary.
Nancy studied at Pontificia Universidad Católica (Ecuador) and Université de Genéve (Switzerland). She has a B.A. (psychology/French) from Northeastern Illinois University, and an M.A. (family and community counseling) also from Northeastern Illinois University.
Rob and Nancy’s home church is Grace Evangelical Covenant Church in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
